On Friday afternoon, Sept. 5th, I picked up Nancy after work (2:45 p.m.) at Sprague H.S. (She was subbing in Spanish classes.), and we drove 350+ miles, all the way to Frenchglen, OR where we stayed 2 nights at the Steens Mtn. Resort. Then, on Sunday morning we had a delicious breakfast at the rather-famous Frenchglen Hotel (established in 1916 and remodeled in '75 when the OR Parks Dept. took it over).
On our full day (Sat.) we drove 59 miles on a gravel road to do the "Steens Mtn. Loop" which involved a climb to the top of Steens Mtn., almost 10,000 ft. high! Also pictured is Pete French's famous "round barn" which he used as a cattle baron in the 19th century to train draft horses. Below that is a picture of a "cattle drive" that hindered our travel out on Sunday on a 2-lane highway. - rw
