Erice is located on top of Mount Erice, 2,460 ft. above sea level, overlooking the seaside city of Trapani. We had time to walk around this small town with narrow stone streets. There was an old Norman Castle to see from the outside. I had time to visit the Chiesa Madre or Real Duomo. The attractive building dates to the
fourteenth century, when it was constructed using materials from the
ancient Temple of Venus. The church has a surprising and appealing
nineteenth-century neo-gothic interior. We took a cable car gondola down to the town of Trapani were we will stay for 2 nights. This gives me time to do a batch of laundry by hand. - Nancy
