Quilts and More Quilts

While in Arizona I brought my sewing machine and managed to make 7 quilts. Three were queen sized, 2 toddler size, 1 large lap quilt and one for a pet. This was my evening and rainy day activity in AZ. Yes, it did rain several days here in the last 2 months. It smells wonderful when it rains in the desert.  - Nancy

Visitors and another trip to Sabino Canyon

My Uncle Dick and his daughter Joyce came to Arizona to spend some time with Dad, Ramona, Ron and I. We did some exploring and went to a play entitled "The Five Presidents". The play was what Presidents Ford, Carter, Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and Clinton might have said when they were all together at Nixon's funeral. It was quite entertaining. We made it to Sabino Canyon for a picnic and the tram tour up the canyon. -Nancy

Seeing Native American Sites

Montezuma Well was formed long ago by the collapse of a limestone cavern, over one million gallons of water a day flows continuously into the Well. This constant supply of warm, fresh water provides an aquatic habitat like no other in the world, and has served as an oasis for wildlife and humans for thousands of years.

Montezuma Castle National Monument protects a set of well-preserved cliff dwellings near the town of Camp Verde, Arizona, United States. The dwellings were built and used by the Sinagua people, a pre-Columbian culture closely related to the Hohokam and other indigenous peoples of the southwestern United States. - Nancy

Arizona's Red Rock Country

On Monday, Jan. 19th, we drove north past Phoenix to Sedona, AZ where we plan to stay two nights. On our first day, we drove out Hwy #179 to the "Chapel of the Cross" which was completed in 1965. On the same drive we hiked up on a trail to get a good look at Bell Rock and some of the surrounding scenery. Obviously, it was a gorgeous day for hiking and picture-taking. - rw
On our next day in Sedona, we hiked up Wilson Canyon after a drive up Oak Creek Canyon. The canyon we hiked on was named after a bear hunter, Richard Wilson, who, interestingly enough, was killed in 1885 by a large grizzly bear! We enjoyed the hike, and then drove to Red Rock State Park where we took another hike and watched a 45-minute video on the red rock country in and around Sedona. - rw

Snow and Palm Trees

It was a chilly start of 2015 here in Arizona. We looked out this morning and saw snow on the Catalina Mountains. It was a beautiful sight. It's not often we get so see palm trees with snow in the background. - Nancy
