A Delightful Two Day Visit

Martha Willits came to visit us in Kuala Lumpur at the end of a business trip to Beijing and Shanghai. It was such a treat to have her. She arrived on Friday night, and since Ron and Doug had gone on an overnight outing to play golf, on Saturday Martha and I went sight-seeing for the day. I'd never gone on the Hop-On, Hop-Off bus tour of KL so we spent the day seeing the highlights of the city -- the Malaysian Craft Market, the Central Market, the Orchid Garden, the Menara Tower, and a trip to the skybrige of the Twin Towers & dinner at a Thai Restaurant to close off the day.

Sunday was a family day with church in the morning, then a noon meal with Doug, Tracy, Reeve, Gabi and Rania. We also visited ISKL to watch Reeve and Gabi go up the ISKL climbing wall and in the evening had pizza at Doug and Tracy's! -Nancy

Reeve's Swim Carnival

The ISKL Melawati Campus had a "fun day" on Thursday with a well-organized "Swim Carnival" competition between classes at the various grade levels. Reeve's "Prep Seniors" were "on" between 10:00 a.m. and 10:45, and were grouped by classes for something of a relay race for freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. Each child was timed with a stop watch, with the cumulative time for each class being totalled. As you can tell from the picture at the top, Reeve's class is getting ready for the first race. In the picture to the left, Reeve has just jumped in and is ready for the freestyle.

Two or three kids in Reeve's class looked like "real pros" -- good swim team prospects, but Reeve also did very well. It was fun for me to be able to watch the races and see the excitement of the teams as the cheered-on those who were still swimming.- rw

Mother's Day in KL

Sunday, May 11th began at 8:30 a.m. with worship at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church downtown. During the service all Moms were asked to stand and were presented with red carnations by children who had just been up front for the children's story. "Mom Nance" was delighted with a Mother's Day card and a beautiful bouquet of flowers -- a gift from Tasha, Doug and Tracy, Mark and Marta.

Following worship, Doug treated his Mom (& accompanying husband) to brunch at The Dome Restaurant at KLCC. Food was good and manners exceptional apart from Rania reaching out to grab a beverage just as soon as the waiter set it on the table. Result: fruit punch all over Rania, the table and the floor! Pictures below (apart from Doug and Reeve in matching ISKL shirts) were all taken at the restaurant.

As a postcript, I wanted to include a couple of pictures taken prior to Mother's Day when I had Gabi and Rania over to our condo for the day -- to swim, eat mac-and-cheese, take naps and play with various games and toys. A typical "Gabi-activity" at Grandpa's is playing on the computer with PBS Kids. As you can tell, Rania is able to entertain herself with a quite a number of things! - rw

Silverton Friends Church's 50th Anniversary

We are happy even by long-distance to help celebrate Silverton Friends Church's 50th anniversary. (The church was planted in 1958 by two women, Charlotte Macy and Dorothy Barratt.)

We hope you are able to enjoy these high-tech greetings.

Bahasa Malaysia -- our last class session

On Tuesday, May 6th, seven members of our class met with Puan Mas, our teacher, at the AAM Building in KL for the final session of our class in "Beginning Bahasa."

Following the class session we fought downtown KL traffic to celebrate our togetherness at a Malaysian restaurant. Food was delicious and we all delighted in presenting Puan Mas with a gift of appreciation. (We hope she wasn't too disappointed that conversation around the table was not entirely in Bahasa!)

In the pictures below Rosemary is presenting our gift, and Tina and Julie are obviously engaged in serious conversation! (Undoubtedly they were practicing in Bahasa the conversations we learned earlier in the day.) - rw

P.S. - Terima kasih, Mas! Banyaknya kami suka awak! Awak guru baik.
