Mount Vesuvius

We arrived at Pompeii and had not purchased tickets. A tour company was close to where we parked and had many offerings. We decided to pay for a private two hour guided tour. The same company had a tour to go the Mount Vesuvius and the bus was leaving at 10 am. The salesman said we would return by 2 pm and could take our guided tour then. I talked everyone into taking the tour to Mount Vesuvius because it seemed like it would be fascinating to go there before we saw Pompeii. It was sunny when we were at Pompeii but it was quite cloudy at the top of Mount Vesuvius. We got off the bus the bus driver said that he would be back at 2 pm to get us. I was quite upset because the company salesman said that we would be back in Pompeii for our private tour at 2 pm. I felt so guilty for the decision to go to Mt. Vesuvius when our main reason for driving there was to see Pompeii.

We all headed off up the mountain and when Ron and I got to top it was pretty socked in. You could see a little into the crater. On our way down the sky cleared for a bit and we could see the view to the city and the ocean. Doug, Tracy and the kids were at the top when it cleared so they got a better view of the crater. It was great that Ron was able to walk all the way to the top. I was very impressed that Ron can say that he has climbed Mt. Vesuvius. After we all got back to meet the bus it started to rain.- Nancy
