Sunday in Kigali

Saturday evening we had a wonderful Mexican dinner at David and Debbie Thomas' house. Fred Amwoka,
librarian at the Friends Theological College in Kaimosi, Kenya, arrived to join our team. Sunday morning we split up and went to 3 different churches. I went with Gene Mulkey and Dave Thomas to a church near the Kigali airport. The service started at about 9 am and finished about 12:30 pm. There were lots of choirs
- children's, women's, adult, youth - and very vibrant singing. One was so energetic that the singers were dancing and jumping more vigorously than if in an aerobics class. One woman got overheated and fainted. She fell into a large 4 ft. speaker on a chair. I was impressed that a man near the stage jumped up and caught the speaker and 3 women in the choir caught the fainting woman before she hit the floor. They fanned her and gave here water but were able to keep singing all through the event. After church we packed up and headed to Masanze which is about 110 km (65 mile) from Kigali. The trip wound through the mountains and the view was filled with fields on high hills and steep paths. We arrived at the Rwanda Friends Theological College by late afternoon. After seeing the library for the first time we settled into our rooms at the Crested Crane Guest House. - Nancy
