Touring in Budapest

The first stop this morning was at Matthias Church in front of the Fisherman's Bastion. According to church tradition, it was originally built in Romanesque style in 1015, although no archaeological remains exist. The first church on the site was founded by Saint Stephen, King of Hungary in 1015. During World War II the church was badly damaged. A thorough restoration program was carried out from 2006 to 2013.There is a statue of St. Stephen on a horse in the plaza by the church.  We did not enter the church but the exterior was very impressive. - Nancy
